FAQ

How can I fix my automobile as a hobby.

Take up a hobby in car repair if you have an interest. You can learn to fix them, buy them parts, and even sell them. This would be a wonderful hobby if you're looking to find something completely different.

It's not an easy task to make this a full-time job. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work. And you'll need to invest a lot of money too.

If you don't have any good reasons to be involved in cars, it may be better to just let it go.

To work as an automotive mechanic, do I need a degree? Do I have to study part-time?

A degree isn't necessary, but it certainly helps. Employers prefer applicants who have completed a full-time degree. It shows that your efforts have been put in and you have succeeded.

You can still study while working, however. Some universities permit students to do coursework during summer holidays and complete their studies later in a year. Other universities permit students to take classes part-time during the school year.

Is it worth becoming a mechanic?

The answer to this question depends on what you want from life if you are looking for money, then yes, but if you're looking for meaning and purpose, then no.

If you don’t possess any mechanics skills, you won’t be able to do it. It's not going make you millionaire. You won't become famous. It is unlikely that your life will change.

You'd have to spend years learning how things work. Also, you would need to hire someone else to fix it if it broke down. That's why most people don't bother doing it at all. They find something better to do instead.

In conclusion, if money is your main goal, you should go ahead. You can't live a meaningful existence if your goal is to make a living in the mechanic's business.

How To

How to become an Automotive Technician

An automotive technician performs repairs and maintains vehicles. He/she is employed at automobile dealerships, garages, service centres, and auto shops. He/she assists customers in fixing their cars, trucks or motorcycles. An automotive technician must know how to diagnose problems and perform repairs efficiently, safely, accurately, quickly, and correctly.

A person who wants to work as an automotive technician should first obtain an associate degree from a vocational school. After completing this program, he/she must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam. ASE stands for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Two sections make up the ASE certification examination. The first section tests for mechanical knowledge, the second for practical skills. You will need to attend an authorized testing site in order to pass the test. These locations can be found online, or by contacting your local car dealer.

After passing the test, a candidate must pass an examination in order to be licensed as an automotive technician. The process will vary depending on where an applicant lives. Some states require applicants to take a training course while others allow them the freedom to study on their own. Some states issue licenses to technicians as soon as they get their license. Others wait until they have worked at least six months as an automotive technician.

To get started as an automotive technician, a person should apply to a local automotive dealership. New employees are usually apprentices when they first get hired. Apprenticeship programs usually last three years. Students learn basic repair skills such as changing oil and adjusting brakes, changing tires, cleaning spark plugs and inspecting engine compartments. Some students are taught how to repair engines and replace transmission fluids. Many schools offer classes during regular hours. Some schools also offer evening classes when needed.

When a student has completed his/her apprenticeship, they become a journeyman. Journeymen spend typically four to five years learning to install major systems such as transmissions and differentials, steering gear, suspensions and drive shafts. Journeymen also learn to fix complicated problems, such as rebuilding engines or troubleshooting electric components. Because they have a good understanding of the job and what customers expect, many employers prefer to hire journeymen.

If a candidate successfully passes the required exams and receives a license, he/she might want to consider starting his/her own shop. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicted that this number would rise by 18% from 2009 to 2020. If a candidate decides to open his/her own shop, he/she should prepare to invest many thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.

The salary of an automotive technician will depend on many factors including where you live, your education level, experience and the type of employer. On average, an unemployed person could earn $20,000 annually. A person with only a high-school diploma could make around $21,000 annually. An associate's degree earns approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with a bachelor’s degree made about $27,000 annually. A master's degree earns around $32,000 per a year. Salary increases are common so professionals who make less than $30,000 a year could realistically expect to earn $40,000 over the next few years.
