SUVs

You want to make sure your family is safe when buying a new car. A model should have electronic stability control (ESC) standard or allow you to add a third row. Look for safety features such as side airbags and all-wheel drive. Look out for features like a large cargo area for all passengers. Finally, make sure it is easy to maintain and practical.

Minivans

One of the best things about minivans is their high level of interior space. Compared to a typical three-row SUV, a minivan offers five inches more legroom in the third row. That's important especially if you're hauling a large family or multiple generations. A minivan could be the right choice if you want a family car that keeps your family happy.

Hybrids

Hybrid family cars combine both an electric motor with a traditional combustion engine to produce power. Hybrid cars reduce emissions for short commutes and other errands while consuming less fuel on longer drives. Hybrids can have many benefits for both the environment and their drivers. They can also be charged at a gas station. Before you buy a hybrid car, there are some important points to remember.

FAQ

What jobs are available for car mechanics?

Three main areas of employment are available for car mechanics:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

This is where most people first think of becoming a mechanic. In fact, it's probably the easiest way to get started. You can either work in a shop run by someone else, or start your business.

If you decide to work at a shop, you'll need to apply to join a union. Once you're accepted into the union, you'll receive training from the union.

After the training, you will be ready to go and start your job.

Register with the government if you want to open your garage. After registering, you'll be required to meet certain standards.

After you register, you will be granted a license for your garage to operate.

Your license will permit you to sell spares parts and perform minor repairs. It won't permit you to fix serious engine problems.

In addition to selling spare parts, you'll also be expected to offer advice and guidance to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics that specialize in one aspect of the vehicle. For instance, they may only be qualified to fix brakes or change tires.

However, dealerships may also employ general mechanics who are able to handle all aspects related to car repairs.

Some positions require that applicants complete training before they can be allowed to work. Employers are able to choose which candidates will best suit their position.

Some dealerships will hire graduates straight from college. These graduates are familiar with the fundamentals of mechanical engineering so they can easily learn about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages do not belong to any dealership. Instead, independent garages tend to concentrate on providing high-quality services.

Independent garages are not associated with any companies so they can afford higher wages. This makes them generally more well-paid than jobs at dealerships.

Independent garages can be just as good places to work, but this does not mean they are better. Many business owners prefer to manage their own businesses rather than delegating responsibility to others.

It is possible to work long hours, but not have any control over the day.

Expect to earn lower salaries than if you were working in a dealership.

The good news is that you can easily switch between different kinds of jobs. To work at a dealership you will need to contact your employer to see if he is open to the idea of hiring you.

Alternativly, you can apply directly to the garage owner if you are interested in working at an independent garage.

The bad news is that finding a new job isn't always easy. Many other factors can also influence the amount you earn.

It could be the type and cost of labor you use to repair your vehicle.
